There are a number of opportunities for adults to get involved, grow, and fellowship at Open Door Baptist Church.
Being "single" has become a complex and diverse environment in our culture. We desire to minister to single men and women, whether they have recently graduated from high school or are established in a professional career path.
The chaplaincy ministry, named Livingston Crisis Chaplaincy, Inc., strives to meet the needs of emergency personnel and people in our community affected by disaster situations. Tommy Normand, a member and deacon, leads this ministry as an effective tool to share Christ's love with people in trying situations.
You may go directlly to the Livingston Crisis Chaplaincy website at http://www.livingstoncrisischaplaincy.com/ for more information and ways to be a support to this ministry.
Children enjoy learning about the Lord and His Word in an environment that facilitates their personal spiritual growth. Each week after Sunday school at 9:30 a.m., the children meet for an enjoyable children's church at 10:30 a.m. During the school year, they also participate in the AWANA program on Wednesday nights, which begins at 6:30 p.m.
Some additional highights of the year include the Back-to-School Musical program, Vacation Bible School, and summer camp.
The role of women is vital to the local church. As such, we seek to provide opportunities for women to grow and serve the Lord in numerous ways. There are many things we do to help us achieve this goal. Some of these include holding Bible studies, having a Ladies Night Out fellowship (LNO), and hosting a ladies retreat (every other year). Some of our ladies also participate in a Sunday school class for women as well.
Our bus ministry seeks to provide transportation to people that otherwise would not be able to get to church on their own. We believe that everyone should be able to attend church, so we pick up people that live in areas surrounding our church facilities. Our team of caring bus workers help get children and adults to and from Open Door Baptist Church.
If you have questions about this ministry, or if you need a ride to church, please contact us to see if our busses come around your area! You may call us at 225-667-4679, extension 100. You may also email us at Kathy@opendooronline.com.
A ministry for men is vital to the leadership and growth of the church. Our men meet at various times for fellowship and prayer. Some of the regular times men meet are for prayer. ODBC hosts a prayer breakfast for men on Tuesday morning at 8:30. Also, men meet before the Sunday evening service at 5:30 to ask to Lord to do a work in peoples' lives. Other activities occur during the year, like cookouts, Saturday morning breakfasts, and a men's retreat (ever other year).
“Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.” Matthew 28:19-20
Open Door Baptist Church seeks to fulfill the command of Scripture to take the gospel into all the world. We are actively involved with missions in the following ways:
You may find out more about our missions program and ways to get involved by going to our missions website at http://missions.opendooronline.com.
“Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.” Colossians 3:16
Music is a vital part of our services. We believe Christ-centered music should honor and glorify the Lord in word and sound. The goal of our music is to unify and prepare the hearts of the congregation for the preaching of God’s Word.
Individuals may get involved by singing and playing instruments. These opportunities include solos, small groups, choir, vocal team, and orchestra.
Our nursery staff and workers seek to provide a loving and secure environment for children while their parents attend the services of our church. Nursery care is available at every service for children up to two years of age. (For children age 3-4 years, see our preschool ministry page.)
Our preschool department has classes for children age 3-4 years (and 5-year-olds not in kindergarten yet). They meet on Sunday mornings at 9:30 during the Sunday school hour and at 10:30 during the worship service. On Wednesday evenings, the children participate in classes as part of our AWANA ministry (during the school year) and in our summer children's program (during the summer months).
